1) Is it really free?
Yes, absolutely. If you qualify for a 100% grant (by being over 70 or receiving a benefit) you will not have to pay anything towards the cost of insulation measures.

2) Where does the money come from?
Some grants come directly from the Government or local councils but the majority come from the utility companies such as British Gas, NPower, etc. The Government have set the utility companies targets to reduce carbon emissions. This is known as the Carbon Emmissions Reduction Target (CERT). Insulation installers complete the work and then invoice the utility companies or their managing agents for the grant amount.

3) How do you select your installers?
Other web sites with similar content to this use the installer's prices as their method of selection. In other words, if customers have to pay, they are put in contact with installers who have the cheapest prices. In reality, there is very little difference in price, so our selection process also takes into account Quality, Customer Care, Health & Saftey, Timescales and the ability to offer a friendly and professional service.

4) How much does it cost if I have to pay?
You will still receive a grant that will bring the price down to as little as £149 for each insulation measure. Detached or larger properties may cost more but the surveyor will be able to give you an exact figure. If you have to pay this contribution, you will typically recover the cost within two years from the savings made on your heating bills.

5) What if I rent my property?
It is the occupier of a property that is entitled to a grant as they pay the fuel bills. Private tenants are entitled to free or heavily discounted insulation, depending on their circumstances. We will need written permission from your landlord but we can apply for this on your behalf. Council or Housing Association tenants should contact their local council or Housing Association directly.

6) Are there any health risks?
Neither the Government, the utility companies, the installers or the material manufacturers are aware of any health risks associated with the installation of Cavity Wall or Loft insulation.

7) Is there much mess?
No. Any mess from the loft insulation is contained within the loft. There may be some dust from drilling during cavity wall insulation but the installers will clean up after themselves.

8) How long does the work take?
For the average sized property, cavity wall insulation takes around two to three hours and loft insulation takes around one hour.

9) Will I have to fill in lots of paperwork?
No. Providing you would like to go ahead, the surveyor who carries out your free no-obligation survey will complete the necessary paperwork. The installer will then deal with the grant application on your behalf.

10) How long does the insulation last?
The insulation will last for the lifetime of the property.

11) Is there a guarantee?
All work is completed to the customer's satisfaction. Cavity Wall Insulation comes with an independent 25 year guarantee provided by CIGA, the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency.

12) How soon can I have my insulation?
This will vary depending on the area in which you live but you could expect to have the insulation installed between two and six weeks after your enquiry.
